Gear drive agitators are normally used for high viscose media and gentle mixing. A wide range is available for materials and seals as well as for different designs of mixing tools covering many purposes of process technology. The reasonable speed range of gear drive agitators lies between 0-400 rpm. Motor speed can be varied by pole-switch or frequency control as well as friction drives. Gear drive agitators can also be combined with high speed mixers to complex mixing plants.

The most simply way of sealing is the use of lip-seals combined with an oil drip disc to provide penetration of gear oil into the vessel in case of gear damage. Also gas and liquid lubricated mechanical seals are available.
